Who doesn’t experience a sense of awe upon catching sight of an eagle? Whenever I’m lucky enough to see one, I always marvel at the eagle’s size, strength, and grace.
For this, my first eagle sculpture, my challenge was designing and sculpting in a way that honored the essence of the eagle through the lens of my style. I decided to treat Wind Chester in a traditional manner rather than anthropomorphizing or adding whimsy. And while this piece was an enjoyable flashback to my classical figurative sculpting days, I was still able to explore my current fascination with the energy created by complementing textured bronze with smooth bronze.
And although this is a more traditional treatment, I still wanted to incorporate some of the signature elements that make my sculptures unique, such as capturing a moment of tension and transition. Wind Chester is taking off on a new and unknown adventure. The moment is heightened by the tucking of one leg. If you’ve seen my dance sculptures, you know how much I enjoy frozen moments of balance.
The simple, vertical architecture for the column treatment also contributes to the narrative by suggesting a sense of elevation and the environment in which these majestic eagles live. But if you prefer a slightly more intimate treatment, Wind Chester is also available on a simple rotating granite base.
This Bronze Eagle Sculpture is for curious nature lovers. This piece is handcrafted to bring nature and beauty to your home or office.
