A Bronze Elephant Sculpture by Laurel Peterson Gregory

I love the work of August Rodin. When I decided to craft a bronze elephant, I enjoyed finding a pose that represented the elephant's personality while also being light-hearted and joyful. As I researched elephants I found that their legendary memories are complemented by a high level of self-awareness. What could be more perfect than an elephant in the pose of Rodin’s The Thinker? This was a tricky sculpture due to the elephant's sheer size, posture and movements.
When this bronze elephant statue is held in the hand, you not only feel the physical massiveness of the elephant — it weighs three pounds — but also the intensity of the cognitive power. And of course I had to sculpt the trunk up, wishing us all good luck!
