This is Tuxedo Hop. Here you see two black or chocolate Labrador Retrievers performing what was in the 1930’s an act of rebellion against the establishment. This is a sophisticated and delicate piece, perfectly balanced to stand on it’s own without the black granite base. But as with most of my work, having it on the base with the turntable adds a wonderful dimension.

I used this piece as an opportunity to explore the sense of volume possible while sculpting with thin sheets of clay. As the piece turns you can see how delicate the legs and tails are. I originally called this piece Lindy Hop, after a popular swing dance, but once I settled on the Tuxedo patina, it’s elegance called out for a more appropriate title.
