What is that giraffe doing? It’s your story to tell. This may seem a bit far-fetched, but I was inspired to do this giraffe sculpture after revisiting Edgar Degas’ work. I have always adored his sculpture Little Dancer Of Fourteen Years. I decided a little bronze giraffe sculpture would look delightful in a similar pose. As it turns out, giraffe anatomy is very unusual, almost prehistoric.

It took a lot of experimenting with this giraffe to come up with a posture that was sculpturally satisfying in a vertical stance. As far as Degas’ piece, I was able to interpret the positioning of the legs and feet and capture a similar sense of pride and stature.
